The thesis addresses an urgent environmental subject which is of gre at relevance to society: the behaviour of PFAS in soil and groundwater. Th e research consists of a literature review\, column experiments and numeri cal simulation of PFAS transport for the interpretation of the experimenta l results. The thesis is extremely well organized and written\, and all re sults and methods are presented in a very clear and precise manner.\n \nHo norable mentions\nThe runners up for this PSSP all delivered impressive hi gh quality studies on important societal challenges: Marjolein van Noord f rom Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam studied the impact of local drought adap tation measures on groundwater levels in the agricultural region of Brekle nkamp in Twente\, Eastern Netherlands. Chukwuemeka Eneogwe from IHE Delft evaluated the effectiveness of submerged zones in green infrastructures fo r enhanced vehicle-related contaminant removal. Wahdan Achmad Syaehuddin f rom Wageningen University and Deltares built a 3D coastal groundwater mode l of Java island to study groundwater effects. Last but not least\, Evi De rks from Wageningen University assessed Managed Aquifer Recharge in the mo untainous watershed in Oaxaca\, Mexico\, where she performed challenging a nd elaborate fieldwork. \n \nMini-symposium\nAs every year\, the winner of the prize will present their work at a mini-symposium around the topic of their MSC thesis. This year five MSc theses were nominated for the PSS P! The jury\, consisting of the AH-NL board (Niels Hartog\, Ane Wiersma\, Daniela Benedicto van Dalen and Ádám Tóth)\, after thorough evaluation came to the unanimous decision that Sophie Hibben is the winner of the PSSP 2024.
